For those of you who read and replied to the last post I made, you will be glad to know that Kieran, and the others, are now free.
It was a rather tense few days as news agencies, such as Reuters, reported that the Captain had half closed the ship loading bay and broken moorings because he feared the convoy was going to take control of the ship and divert to Gaza - attempting to break through the blockade. He was apparently taking the hostages to Greece to hand over to the authorities as terrorists.
When they finally docked (in Greece) we heard they still weren't being allowed off the ship and were being 'processed' by Greek authorities as criminals. Beyond that - as with the whole saga - there was very little information available.
Kieran finally posted the following on Facebook on Sunday night;
Greece! We're free - spent night in various police stations.. captain & owner now in jail for kidnapping! Had to answer counter-suit from him - described by police as "silly" - took literally all night. Irish Consul has been an absolute legend. Now our big worry is to get Libya to send our passports back to us (via the Libyan embassy, ideally, and NOT any Greek or British authorities who might have to cancel them).
Rumours that he just wanted a holiday and cruise, or that the exotic drama of kidnap on foreign shores was all a ploy to impress the girl he's just started seeing are unsubstantiated.
I'm very amused by the photo album that has appeared on facebook that they took during the kidnap; including sneaky photos of the captain, a group photo in the room they were held, photos of them stealing food from a lifeboat and, my favourite, photos of the commandos storming the boat. Rad.
There's also a youtube video of them being kidnapped from the port in Libya. Social media is jolly fun.
