It really is dependent on the structural integrity of the mash - mine was on the firm side so it was possible to dip a finger and come away with a fluffy blob. Also it was mash I was surreptitiously eating whilst some other components of my dinner were cooking which somehow makes it all the more delicious.
And yes! Aside from how delicious every meal I ate in Malaysia was, the joy of eating with my hands for about a month never wore off. Haven't found any decent restaurants who serve food in a eat-with-your-hands way in the UK
